This soft X-ray deflecting mirror unit is part of the SIX beamline, dedicated to high resolution soft X-ray scattering experiments. Energy resolution and pointing stability are here of crucial importance. It features an adapted constant-strut-length mechanism accounting for space constraints due to the proximity to the experimental station of the resonant innelastic X-ray scattering spectrometer (RIXS).
The constant-strut-length hexapod design used in this soft X-ray deflecting mirror unit is adapted from that of the EMIL beamlines hexapods (see projects P405 to P412).

This mirror unit features a cardanic mount to realize the required degrees of freedom. The challenge was to accomodate all components within the lateral space constrains in the M1 hutch of the ESM beamline at NSLS-II. Special attention was payed to block zero-order and stray light by using several water cooled masks and beam stops.
